How To Apply NSFAS 2024

The process for applying for a National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary may vary slightly from year to year, so it’s crucial to consult the latest guidelines provided by NSFAS. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, here is a general step-by-step guide for applying for an NSFAS bursary:

Check Eligibility

Make sure you fulfill the NSFAS eligibility requirements. This usually entails meeting the NSFAS means test standards, being a citizen of South Africa, and enrolling in or intending to enroll in a public university or TVET college.

Gather Required Documents

Get all the supporting documentation you’ll need, including a certified copy of your ID, evidence of your parents’ or guardians’ income, and any other pertinent paperwork. For the most recent list of required documents, visit the NSFAS website as requirements may change.

Create MyNSFAS Account

Go to the NSFAS website (www.nsfas.org.za) and create a MyNSFAS account if you don’t have one. You will need a valid email address and cell phone number to register.

Log In to MyNSFAS Account

Log in to your MyNSFAS account using the details you provided during registration.

Complete the Online Application

Complete the online application form on the MyNSFAS portal. Provide accurate information about your personal details, academic information, and family financial situation

Upload Supporting Documents

Upload all the required supporting documents as specified in the application form. Ensure that these documents are clear and certified.

Submit Application

Once you have filled in all the required information and uploaded the necessary documents, submit your online application. Take note of the application reference number.

Check Application Status

After submitting your application, you can log in to your MyNSFAS account to check the status of your application. NSFAS will communicate with you regarding the outcome of your application.

Provide Additional Information if Requested

If NSFAS requires additional information or documentation, be prompt in providing the requested details.

Accept Award

If your application is successful, you will receive a notification. Follow the instructions to formally accept the NSFAS award.

Sign Agreement

Sign the NSFAS bursary agreement. This is a legal document outlining the terms and conditions of the bursary.

NSFAS officials will never ask or call you to share your password!

We strongly advise all applicants and beneficiaries to always safeguard their personal information.
