Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for the General Miner position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements:

  • Grade 10 or Equivalent (Level 2: National Certificate in GET Services).
  • Blasting Certificate (Essential for underground mining operations).

Work Experience & Competencies:

  • Certified Competent Stoper/Developer.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in mining operations.
  • Medically fit to perform duties in an underground mining environment.
  • Clear security screening record.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Mining Operations & Production:

  • Conduct and supervise early morning safety inspections in compliance with company procedures and Prepare the mining face for daily blasting activities.
  • Monitor and supervise the mining cycle of operation to ensure adherence to safety and productivity standards and Sign off on blasting schedules and charging-up procedures.
  • Oversee end-of-shift activities and report on daily production progress.
  • Optimize allocated resources to enhance operational efficiency and Implement corrective measures to improve production outcomes when necessary.

Administrative & Reporting Duties:

  • Conduct legal compliance administration and general reporting and Complete timesheets, shift tally reports, and equipment checklists.
  • Order explosives and maintain an updated inventory of mining equipment.
  • Document and ensure adherence to leave rosters and work schedules and Log and communicate equipment breakdowns to minimize production delays.

Workplace Safety & ESG Compliance:

  • Align operations with international responsible mining principles:
    1. SA Gold Operations: World Gold Council (WGC) Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs).
    2. SA PGM Operations: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiatives.
    3. US PGM Operations: Align with ICCM principles.
  • Initiate and conduct regular safety meetings to ensure compliance with safety legislation.
  • Perform risk assessments and identify potential workplace hazards.
  • Scrutinize reports from departments like survey, ventilation, and engineering, and implement corrective actions where necessary and Foster a safe and healthy working environment by enforcing compliance with company SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) policies.

People Management & Development:

  • Provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to junior mining staff and Offer technical guidance to Development, Stoping, and Trackless teams.
  • Set clear work expectations and daily goals while providing constructive feedback.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations and arrange necessary training sessions and Facilitate the induction of new employees into the mining teams to ensure smooth onboarding.
